Dubai Sports City will become the home of mountain bikes on Friday 8 March when it hosts the Great Dubai Pulse Ride - Off Road.
On offer will be two rides starting at 9am - a 5 kilometre course going on and off-road for families and children and a 25 kilometre cross-country ride for more experienced cyclists.
Participation is free and cyclists can either register beforehand at email@example.com or on the day at the Dubai Sports City Academies Campus from 8 - 8.45am.
There will be a brunch barbeque available, as well as a children's play area and a Friday market, and anyone wishing to take part in the rides only needs to bring along a bicycle and a helmet in order to do so.
All children that take part will receive a certificate of participation and all those who register and take part in the ride stand a chance of winning a bike, courtesy of The Cycle Hub.
Explaining the idea behind the Great Dubai Pulse Ride - Off Road, Dubai Sports City President Khalid Al-Zarooni, himself a keen mountain biker, said: "The Dubai Pulse is a fantastic initiative by Dubai Sports Council that already stages walks, runs and swims as well as cycling at the new cycle track at Al Qudra, as part of its programme to make sport a lifestyle for Dubai residents.
"We approached the Dubai Sports Council to ask if they would also incorporate mountain biking into the scheme and they were extremely positive about the idea and the result is this ride from Dubai Sports City on 8 March.
"We look forward to welcoming people to Dubai Sports City for a fantastic day that will be fun for all the family and also an enjoyable challenge for the more serious mountain bikers in our city.
"The Great Dubai Pulse Ride - Off Road is an example of the many and diverse activities we offer at Dubai Sports City for anyone and everyone wanting to get involved in sport.
"We cater for top-class sports stars like world number one golfer Rory McIlroy, the England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka cricket teams, English Premier League side Swansea City, the recent winners of the League Cup at Wembley, and Russian football team FC Anzhi Makhachkala, who have been using our Academies Campus facilities over the past week.
"Those teams and athletes are attracted to us by our world-class, state-of-the-art facilities and those facilities are also available to anyone wanting to come along and just have a go.
"We encourage people to come and experience for themselves what we have to offer at Dubai Sports City."
The Great Dubai Pulse Ride - Off Road is part of the Dubai Pulse programme, launched by the Dubai Sports Council in 2009 according to the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make sport a lifestyle that allows people to enjoy increased levels of health and fitness.
As part of the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, the programme aims to develop social sports, increase the numbers taking part in physical activities and make the culture of sport popular throughout society.
Kevin Brennan, the General Manager for Facilities Management at Dubai Sports City, added: "The Great Dubai Pulse Ride - Off Road is an excellent initiative and it will offer the communities in and around Dubai Sports City as well as those beyond the area the chance to enjoy a day out with their families.
"At the same time it will give those who take part an opportunity to experience the fun and enjoyment to be found in an outdoor, healthy lifestyle which Dubai Sports Council is promoting through its excellent Dubai Pulse initiative.
"And from Dubai Sports City's perspective it is one of many initiatives we are looking to plan for our master community of residents this year."
