Dubai Sports City's first-ever Open Day has been hailed as a spectacular success.

More than 400 people visited the DSC Academies Campus last Saturday to see and sample the range of sports on offer and to enjoy a family day out.

The event was so popular, with families as well as adults wanting to check out the activities available, that DSC officials are already looking at staging it on a regular basis in the future.

DSC General Manager - Sports Business Maqbul Dudhia said: "The idea behind the Open Day was to showcase to the public the superb and ever-expanding facilities we have at Dubai Sports City, the world's first integrated, purpose-built sports city, and we are delighted with the way the event turned out.

"People came to enjoy themselves, sample the activities we offer and see for themselves what fantastic facilities we have.

"The Open Day proved really popular, so much so that we will now look at ways we can stage it on a more regular basis because clearly there is demand for something like this among the public.

"The good news for those people who were not able to attend is that it is not too late to sign up for the courses and activities available at Dubai Sports City but we urge those thinking about it to sign up as soon as possible to take advantage of the full benefits of getting involved.

"The Open Day emphasised that although our outstanding facilities are used by the world's leading sports stars, including world number one golfer Rory McIlroy and the England, Pakistan, Australia and Sri Lanka cricket teams, they are not just for those elite sportsmen and women.

"They are available for use by anyone and everyone from infants involved in our Socatots programme, through to children in coaching programmes in football, cricket and golf, and adults through private, corporate or league activities.

"We encourage the people of the UAE to find out what is available to them on their doorsteps at Dubai Sports City and we look forward to welcoming people over the comings weeks and months to take advantage of these world-class, state-of-the-art facilities.

Those who attended last weekend's DSC Open Day got the chance to sign up for courses and activities including:
* Socatots - football for children from walking to four years of age;
* Soccer Stars - for children from five to 15 years old;
* ICC Global Cricket Academy (ICC GCA) - Junior and Senior Warriors;
* and The Butch Harmon School of Golf.

They also got an early chance to get involved with the ICC GCA's latest course, Cricket Cubs, the programme for children from walking age to 5 1/2 years, which gets underway in early February.

There was rugby activity too, and the chance for an exclusive look at the new, state-of-the-art indoor football pitch which will be fully operational and available for hire at the end of this month.

And coupled with children's activities including face-painting and a bouncy castle, and refreshments throughout the day, it all added up to a great experience for everyone who came along to enjoy themselves.

A broadcast-quality interview and audio clips with ICC GCA General Manager David Jenkins is available for free editorial use. To access it go to www.audioboo.fm and type DSC into the search engine in the top right-hand corner of the home page.
